No, it is not IBM ThinkPad 300. It is IBM ThinkPad 770 series. Because of model-specific rear side shown in "I am in Vancouver" scene - it is definitely IBM ThinkPad 770 series.

Because of the filming period (february 25, 1998 - june 8, 1998) and a build-in modem, we can say that Joe uses one of two models - IBM Thinkpad 770 (9549-1AU) introduced in october 1997 or IBM Thinkpad 770ED (9549-5AU) introduced in april 1998.
