Phil Blackwood is an author of detective novels. Struggling for inspiration for his next book, and under pressure from his publishers, he visits the local courts to try and spark an idea. There he sees a beautiful Romanian woman being arraigned for murder. Both attracted to her and seeing the possibility of a story, he offers to be her alibi.
